In the chapter where Jon Snow and Tyrion travel north to the
wall we are given a lot of hints in the form of repetition. For one we see a
lot of the word “dragon”, now this isn’t an important detail except Dany just
received dragon eggs for her wedding and her family previously gained their
power through the dragons in the past. Even though they have been believed to
be extinct for the hundreds of years this chapter gives us hope of their return
much like Tyrion hoped to be able to ride one as a child. Next lets look at the
binary oppositions like Tyrion’s mind being a weapon. Most people in the time
viewed little people like Tyrion but since he reads and tries to learn so much
his mind could be a very powerful weapon. Then the big difference between being
a noble and a bastard born son. Although Jon was raised like he was noble born,
being taught how to hold a sword, ride a horse, and read, now that he is on the
wall there is a clear distinction of the other bastards and low born men and
Jon Snow. This will make Jon even more of an interesting character later on in
the book since he has seen both the rich educated life and knows what its like
to still be an outcast much like Tyrion. Lastly Tyrion raises the ultimate question
of whether Jon will continue thinking the wall is a noble calling or the less
gracious job that it has become over the years.
