So
far, Game of Thrones is interesting. I like the way George R. R. Martin writes
and the way he sets up his chapters. Towards the beginning I was confused as to
who was related to who but as the sections of the book go on, everything is
becoming much more clear. It seems that Ned and Eddard are the same person; I didn’t
know that in the beginning. Ned is married to Catelyn and they have Robb,
Rickon, Sansa, and Arya as children. Jon is the bastard son that Catelyn is not
fond of. Ned is going to work for the King, Robert, and is leaving behind
Catelyn, Rickon and Robb. I think its interesting the way the author mentions
things and knows that the reader doesn’t know what he is referring to at the
moment. Shortly after, of course, everything is made clear. Bran seems to be a
pretty important character I get the feeling. Although we are not very far in
the book at all, there is already many different stories and situations going
on. Definitely the most important being that Lysa, Catelyn’s sister, wrote a
letter telling Catelyn that her husband was murdered by the queen. This forced
Ned to serve as the kings second man. Jon is also an interesting character. I’m
not exactly sure what the Night’s Watch is but it seems very intense. Jon wants
to join the Night’s Watch which seems to resolve the problem whether he should
stay with Catelyn or go with Ned.
I’m a bit confused
with how Daenerys fits into the story and who she is related to. I’m also
confused as to what the Wall is and why the North and South are so segregated.
The book also seems to mention the existence of the Others but never elaborates
on who they are or where they live. Overall, Game of Thrones is super
interesting and keeps you wanting to read.
