Game of thrones page 1 to 75

“Game of Thrones” is one of favorite books and I have come to love the series as well. This is my second time reading the book so I know what’s coming but reading it the second time around has given me insight to something’s I missed the first time around. The book opens in a scene north of the Wall where 2 rangers of the nights watch are killed by The Others but one gets away. Then we move south to Winterfell where Ned Stark, head of the house of Stark and warden of the North, is about to put to death one of them who survived The Others attack. On their way back his sons Bran, Robb, and hi basterd son Jon finds 6 direwolf pups and their dead mother. The mother is found with an antler in it foreshadowing to events later in the book. Ned then learns an old friend has died and his old friend Robert who is now king is coming to Winterfell. Upon his arrival he ask Ned to be his Hand of the King and for Ned’s daughter and Robert’s son to be married. We also learn about how Ned’s sister, brother, and father were all killed due to the old Targaryen king. Far away in the free-cities we meet Dany and her brother Viserys the last of the Targaryen family and the last of the dragon born. Viserys sold his sister Dany to the Khal Drogo in exchange for his army. Viserys wants to return to the 7 kingdoms and reclaim the throne he claims to be rightfully his. Finally, we learn Ned’s old friend Jon Arryn did not die of natural causes like the king thinks. Instead, Ned’s wife’s (Catelyn) sister claims that the queen herself has killed him. Discovering this Catelyn encourages Ned to go South and become the hand in order to find out who Jon’s killers were and why. It is also decided that the Stark daughters will go south with Ned and Jon will join the nights watch as he requested. We also already start to dislike the Prince Joffrey because of his cocky attitude that comes with being a Lannister.
