1-75 Summary

The beginning of the book is very confusing however it is also very revealing. To begin with, the brothers witnessing their father beheading a man who had been a deserter, this plays into our discussions in class, violence in the media, the portrayal of this even in the tv show would have been gory and a contributor to the violence of the media. There is deceit and lies occuring at every turn, jealous, and anger at circumstances. Each of the 5/6 children have their own stories and their own ambitions, they are reflected in how they act and how they name and choose their dirwolves. Jon is an outcast, a bastard, who at first excludes himself from the picking of a dirwolf until he finds one that is different, an albino that clashes with the alikeness of the rest of the pups. Their is jealous by Arya of her sister Sansa who appears to have an blessed life in comparison. While Robb and Bran are trying to find their own way. The decision by Ned to follow the King, whom he loves as a brother (since they are nearly brothers in law) is significant and worries those who might be effected by a powerful hand of the king. The situation will continue to tangle and weave itself as their is more character development.
