Homework 2/20
I chose Arya's chapter in the book, where she speaks with her father, and her father foreshadows trouble for the family. Some important words and phrases in this chapter were "direwolf", the contrast between winter and summer, young and old, and friend or foe. The most important of those being dire wolf. The dire wolf in this chapter ties everything from the present, to the contrasting images, to foreshadowing together. The way Lord Stark placed the two together, had also foreshadowed a possible uprising of the Stark family against the forces that were trying to break it. The dire wolf alone is a threatening creature and a force to be reckoned with, but when trained it is able to maintain its cool. Now falling in line with some of the things that Ned Stark was talking on, he began implying that it was essential for the family to be on its best behavior and stick together for those times when you weren't sure who was a friend or foe (also a direwolf characteristic). The direwolf is essential in the winter/ harsh climate, so I'm very interested to see where the author takes this image in the story. The characters in itself are hard to put in a place or category, because they can be unexpected at times. The thing I want to see the most in the future concerns whether the direwolf is for or against them at this time of peril.
