This
reading starts with Dany on the road with her Dothraki army. She has seemed to
have become a leader within the Dothraki people. She is a khaleesi the
equivalent to a queen of the Dothraki people. She is now in a higher position
than her brother. This is going to be a constant struggle between Dany and her
brother. Viserys believes that this is his army, but his sister is one of the
higher ups and has went from a point of weakness to a point of power. Then Ned
Stark is attempting to find the truth behind Jon Arryn’s death. He knows that
there is something more to it. Next at the wall we meet a new character Sam. Pathetic and fat, Sam struggles training for the Nights Watch. I believe that
Martin uses Sam as a contrast to Jon Snow. Jon Snow is a strong able knight,
and he befriends Sam a weak and pathetic knight. I think that Sam may represent
Jon Snow on the inside. With Jon being a bastard and a social outcast; that may
be why is befriends and protects someone that he can relate to. Then we are
introduced to Sandor Clegane a knight. I know it’s not too significant, but the
fact that Joeffry wouldn’t walk Sansa back and he acted like a big shot got me
mad. Everything Joeffry does bothers me. Then Ned Stark continues investigate
the murder of Jon Arryn. He learns how all Lannisters have blonde hair. He is
starting to get more and more suspicious of the cause for Jon Arryn’s death.
Lastly Catelyn takes Tyrion hostage. She believes that because it was Tyrion’s blade
he is responsible for the attempted murder of her son. We end the reading with
Tyrion being taken to await the kings justice.
