GoT 7
Ned now must confess the treason he has "committed" if he has any shot of getting out of jail. Sansa has now completely fallen under the affection of Joffery and his mother. She is pleading for the safety of her father but I still feel like she would give up her father to be with Joffery. I really think that a big contrast between the two families comes out in this section because Ned doesn't want to admit to something he didn't do because it's honorable where the Lannisters are not honorable in the slightest and will do anything to keep the throne. Jon contemplates leaving the wall to help Robb lead his army. Danys stops a rape from happening but loses the respect of the Dothraki in doing so. Tyrion passes his father's "test" during the fighting between Stark and Lannister and lives. I feel that this section shows each character's own personal struggles.
GOT 7
In this section Joferry is the new king and he wants everyone to bow down to him, he says he will save Ned if he confesses that he was a traitor. We find out that Ned has to choose between confessing and joining the Night's watch and if he doesn't then Sansa will suffer. This whole part pulled me in because you know how Ned is so honorable and you don't know what he will exactly do. Next, we find out that Robb is allowed to cross the bridge but he will have to marry one of the king's daughter. I think that was a stupid proposal and I don't think it will happen. We see Dany grow into a strong leader. She stops a girl from getting raped and her husband is badly wounded and she has to take things into her own hands and she does an excellent job of this. In the beginning I never liked Dany but now I see her true character and I do like her. She is the character that has gained the biggest and matured the most. During Jon's chapter we find out more interesting things like he got a sword for helping out and then we learn that Aemon is actually Aemon Targaryen! Dany's next chapter Khal is dying and we find out that Dany is going into labor. But, I have this feeling that if Khal dies then Dany will lose her power because she has all the power because of him.
Question: Will Robb really marry this girl? Will Dany have her kid and will it be a boy or girl?

GoT 7
The epic conclusion to an epic book is finally coming and yet so much is still going on. Dany helps out the witch who was getting raped, in return the witch says she will help heal Drago's cuts. Since i have already read the book i know that nothing good is to come from this. More importantly though everyone's favorite character Tyrion met up with his father which allows to further explore the relationship with his father. Tyrion wasn't kidding when he said his father was ashamed of him, after returning and escaping captivity his father scolds him for being captured in the first place and then places him in the front lines of a battle attempting to doom him to death. Luckily Tyrion survives the battle with the help of his barbarian friends. The character Shay is also developing leading us to question if Tyrion will fall in love with yet another prostitute.
Questions: What do we think will happen to dany and this woman she saved? and Will dany and drago gain enough resources to be able to make ships and finally return to the 7 kingdoms?

GoT 7
This section of the book had a lot going on. Dany ended up helping a girl who was getting raped. I think she helped her because this is how she felt when she was first involved with Kahl Drogo. After she helps the girl they girl repays her by trying to help Kahl drogo with all of his wounds. This doesnt work and Kahl drogo gets worse off. Ultimately it seems like he is going to die conveniently right when dasny is about to go into labor. she asked the girl she saved if she could help her when the baby comes. I think this is foreshadowing to something bad about o happen but then something good coming out of it. Kahl drogo is seen as a bad person and if he dies then i think a whole new mood to the novel will evolve I think dany is growing up and becoming a more sensible person as well. This section is also when tyrion goes into battle and contrary to popular belief he comes out alive. alot of details come up about his insecurities though and i think this goes perfect with my topic. we finally get to see the tyrion that is really there and not the one he tries so hard for people to think he is. He says he gets stared at alot because of his short legs and it makes him feel uncomfortable. This will definitely be a section i use in my final research paper. what will happen if kahl grodo actually does die. will they be after dany?
Game of Thrones 7
In this section of the text it seems like everything is going into chaos. Ned is now in prison for committing treason. Sansa, under the wing of Cersei, begs for mercy on her father. Joeffrey agrees to mercy if Ned confesses to his treason. When Varys discusses this with Ned, it is apparent that Ned is struggling with his honor and if confessing is the best thing to do, even though it is not the most honorable thing to do. This really shows the difference it tactics between the Starks and the Lannisters in this Game of Thrones. Cersei now has power through Joeffrey and Sansa while Ned is powerless. I think this Game is also shown with Daneryers who is a similar character to Ned, in how she uses her power. She stops a girl from getting raped and starts to show weakness in the eyes of the Dothraki men and it is insinuated that this might lead to her downfall. Jon is struggling with doing the honorable thing by staying with the nightswatch or leaving to help his brother fight the war. In the meantime Catelyn and Robb are doing everything they can to win this war and in the battle against the Lannisters they capture Jamie really mixing up the pot. In the same battle Tyrion is made to fight and set up by his father to die, yet he lives and proves his worth to his father. It seems like every characters role has switched from the beginning of the book. With this switch of power, seems to be a change of character as well. This section also sets up a lot of foreshadowing for what is to come and it seems like it is only going to go downhill from here.
Game of Thrones
There is an incredibly interesting dynamic in this section for Eddard and Sansa Stark in this section. I found it be very interesting that though the relationship between Sansa and her family members has been strained, to an extent, that their is some true valuing of Sansa about her family. During her chapter at one point she thinks to herself that she must be strong, like her mother, so that she could do as she needed to do. Sansa's attitude up until that point had been very approving of the Queen and the Lannister way of life and yet she still has that desire to be more like Catelyn than Cersei, even though she has been aspiring to be Queen. It has seemed as though Sansa has cared very little for her siblings, unconcerned with Arya, angry at Nedd, and yet she worries for them first and asks Joff to grant mercy to her father. Then we see the other side of the captive family members with Ned. He obviously has gone to great lengths to keep his honor and keep his daughters safe. And yet as he sits in the dungeons faced with the option of admitting his crimes saving his own and daughters life he dislikes the idea because of his honor and that he feels that he has done the right thing and to admit fault would make him dishonorable. But he is also considering his daughters safety. I think that this section is very important in our learning about the relationship of Eddard and Sansa.
GOT 618-716
This section of reading began with Sansa's chapter where we get the impression she isn't as free as she thought since she is being escorted everywhere. Sansa then goes to Cersi and Joffrey and asks for Ned to be pardoned and Cersei responds by saying that it is possible but only if Ned confesses. This scene kind of foreshadows what may happen with Ned in the coming chapters, if and how he will keep his honor. We then get into the chapter of Ned where he is accompanied by Varys. Varys tells Ned that if he does confess he will be forced to join the Night's Watch instead of being executed. At first, Ned doesn't go for it, but Varys reminds him that Sansa is next in line to be hurt if he does not follow through with Cersi's order. We get a little sneak peak here of how Ned is going to react to this terrible situation he's in. I think he realized quickly that his family is in danger if this does not pan out correctly, which opens his eyes to what the consequences of his actions may be. Moving on to Catelyn's chapter, she has agreed with Lord Walder that Robb will marry one of his daughters, and Arya will marry one of his son's. This chapter made me think a little differently about Catelyn as to the type of mother she is. I know she is doing the right things to keep her family strong, but at the same time she is marrying off her daughter whom she does not know if she is dead or alive. Back at the wall, Jon struggles with the fact that he should go help Robb with the war as he is still his brother, but has requirements to stay at the wall. Jon is confronted by Maester Aemon who reminds Jon that the Night's Watch is neutral. We also learn that Maester Aemon was once Aemon Targaryen and that he too had to give up his family for the Night's Watch. This chapter reveals that Jon seems to be struggling with the wall versus his family, especially at this point in time. It shows a bit of Jon's vulnerability and his love for his family. Once again he seems to have a strong relationship with his siblings as he is worried about Robb. In Dany's chapter, she comes across a young women being raped and quickly makes the man stop. Khal encountered some injury's and is then taken care of by the girl Dany 'rescued', who then is asked by Dany to assist her in the birth of her baby. I think this scene forshadows something that may happen with this women. It seems as if the Dothraki don't trust her, while at the same time Dany is wanting to trust her with her unborn child. In Tyrion's chapter, he is at battle with the Stark's which he holds his own and survives, as well as wins the battle for the Lanister's. We learn that Tyrion's father purposely placed him on the left of the battle line in "hopes" that he would be killed. By Tyrion proved that he is stronger than people believe which is significant, and somewhat of an increasing characteristic of Tyrion. In Catelyn's chapter we aren't given much more information besides that Robb has taken Jaime in hostage. We also learn that MANY people died in this fight which shoes how big of a deal it was to capture Jaime. In Dany's second chapter we are under the impression that Khal Drogo is getting very weak and sick. As Drogo has not been following any or Mirri's instructions, we are under the impression he is dying because of that. During all of the commotion of the men fighting, and Mirri trying to save Khal, Dany goes into labor. Once again I believe this is a sign that there is more to Mirri then meets the eye. Something may happen with her/Dany/the baby.
G of T
One thing that absolutely blew my mind and I did not see coming was Maester Aemon being a Targaryen. I mean while I was reading the conversation I made my assumptions but before that I would not have guessed that to happen at all. I wonder what this could mean for the rest of the book. Because he is the last living, true dragon. I don't really count Dany as being a full dragon simply because she now seems to give into the Dothraki lifestyle and that is how I see her. She really has grown up so much in the short time that her brother sold her to Khal Drogo. I think when we first met her I had a feeling she would be more than what you would expect. She truly has come to a place of power and accepts it. After the war, when she is going through the ruin and she commands the Dothraki to stop raping the women she really shows the power she holds over them and it hits home with her. These women are being abused when they haven't done anything wrong and I think she somewhat see herself in these women simply because for so long her brother was abusive and terrible to her and she could do nothing to stop him. All of the children in the book have had to grow up so fast, Robb included. Catelyn leaves the Twins and tells Robb they can only cross if all of these marriages are agreed to. Robb takes it like a man, literally, he accepts his fate of having agreed to this marriage to a girl he has no idea of. He knows that in order to have any success in his fight he will have to cross and as an honorable leader he does what needs to be done, he truly is a reflection of his father. I am truly invested in this book and I can't wait to see what happens next. Although if it does end in a cliff-hanger I am going to flip and be so mad. I guess I'll just have to read the other books.
Game of Thrones
Watching
Dany grow throughout the novel has been a lot of fun to see. At first she was a
passive child and now at this point is growing into a strong leader. She
stopped the raping of a girl, she is a stong and fair leader which makes me
root for her to take the iron throne. However, her husband Khal Drogo is now
sick. He is really the reason she has so much power so his life is very
important. If Dany is to lose him she may lose all that she has gained
throughout the book. We then see Sansa actually seeing what is going on. She pleads
to the Lannisters to pardon her father but they only will if he admits crimes.
Robb then agrees to marry someone in order to have more men in battle. This
again goes to the topic of arranged marriage. I think that we have reached the
climax and are now going to the resolution of the book. However I know that all
will not be resolved because this is a series of books. Also Tyrion goes to
battle and comes out of it alive which is very surprising seeing as he is so incompetent
at fighting. When Drogo is dying Dany starts to have her child. I believe that
Dany is slowly losing her power. If Drogo dies she has little power over this
army of Dhothraki. Drogo does not follow the healer’s orders so it is unlikely
he will live.
Question:
Do you agree with the Stark’s decision to arrange a marriage for more soldiers?
GOT 7
Within this reading Dany has stood out to me the most, and actually throughout all of the book. I think her rise to power is fascinating and has had the most character development overall. In her first chapter of this section she shows her power by being sympathetic to a girl who is being raped, causing it to end. I believe this connects to Dany because in the beginning of the book she felt unready to be intimate with Khal Drogo, in a way maybe she felt she was losing her innocence in an equivalent way to rape. Although she does love Khal Drogo, and owes her loyalty to him swell as her future, but it is not her future at risk anymore, it is Khals. He is injured and refuses to see the healer to cure him of his serious injuries. Due to Dany's kind heart the girl she saved repays her thanks by being able to attempt to heal Khals wounds, seeing her doctoring skills Dany asks the girl if she will be willing to help deliver her child when the time comes.
This question is a foreshadow to Danys last chapter as she goes into labor, just has Khal Drogo's symptoms and wounds get worse resulting in him being on the verge of death. The biggest question lingering from this is what will Dany end up doing if Khal dies? Is she even fit enough to be Queen, and with this new power will she take over all of the 7 kingdoms at once or will she do it over time? With the Lannisters and Starks being manipulative and sneaky, will they turn on Dany if she tries to take the throne?

-In Sansa's chapter she's allowed to go through the kingdom but is always being escorted which is strange if she really thinks she feels free. Cersei also names Jaime as Lord Commander to the Kingsguard. And Sansa begs for her father to be pardoned but Cersei and Joffrey say its possible if he admits to his crimes. The next chapter, Eddard is confronted by Varys and pretty much told he has to commit to the crimes that Cersei and Joffrey want him too and he'll be permitted to join the Night's watch and tell his son to stop the battle, or else Sansa may be next to get hurt. In Catelyn's chapter she works out an agreement with Lord Walder that includes Robb marrying one of his daughters, and Arya is to marry Elmar Frey if she is still alive. In Jons chapter, there is still no sign of Benjen and Jon gets a gift from Lord Commander for saving his life. Jon also is confronted by the Maester about not fleeing the wall to go protect his father and tells him that he understands how Jon feels. In Dany's first chapter of this section she does a big deed by helping a girl who is being raped and making it stop. Khal drogo also is injured and refuses to see the healer and has pretty serious injuries. This girl Dany saves is able to help Drogo and stitch him up and Dany asks this lady to help her when she has her child. In Tyrion's chapter, he has sex with a whore which is significant because this is the first time this has happened since the girl his brother hired to have sex with him. Tyrion also actually goes to battle and comes out alive holding his own. In Catelyns chapter, Robb goes to battle with Jaime and actually takes him prisoner along with several other men. In Dany's last chapter Drogo is slowly dying because he has not followed the orders of his healer. Mirri tries to perfrom a ritual to save Drogo, and during all of this craziness, Dany goes into labor.
- I think this reading had me, more than any other, asking so many questions and making predictions as to what could possibly happen next. I think Jon is still battling this loyalty issue and I want him to leave and go help his family but at the same time I dont want him to get himself in trouble with the Night's Watch. I'm wondering if the Starks will think Jon isn't loyal to them if he does not come fight along side Robb and the others. Also, I think Dany's actions in the next few chapters could be interesting. If Drogo dies, will she automatically try taking over the seven kingdoms and prepare for battle? I think this will be interesting to see how her decisions play out. Also, now that Robb has captured Jaime as a prisoner, it could be interesting to see if they work out a trade to get Ned back. I think capturing Jaime bought Ned more time to figure out another option rather than going to the Nights Watch or dying.
Discussion Questions:
- Do we think the Starks will think Jon is not loyal to them if he does not leave the Nights Watch and come fight along side of them?
- What do we think Dany will do once she gives birth, especially if Drogo is dead? Will she try to capture the seven kingdoms right away?
- Do we feel as if Tyrion is gaining respect from his family through being able to hold his own more?

GoT to 716
The last chapter with Dany really threw me off. I never would have expected Drogo to be dying and of course in that moment Dany goes into labor. So much happened in that short amount of time. I'm hoping for the best for Dany and I still hope she gets her Seven Kingdoms back. Tyrion is the character that stood out to me the most this time. It took a lot of courage for him to go into battle and he actually came out well. I wouldn't have expected him to come out alive, he did get lucky but he is still alive. I feel bad for him because he is always looked down upon. Now that he is around his father it is mentioned more how he can feel people staring at him when he walks awkwardly because his legs are so short and I think he is more self-conscious now. I would hate to be in his position always being starred at and thought less of. Poor Sansa still has no idea what is going on. It seems as though she isn't in reality and stuck in a fairytale where Joffery lvoes her so much he will do anything for her. She doesn't realize how bad the situation really is and Cersei is playing games with her. Catelyn would have to be one of my favorite characters. She is not only a great mother but she is such a strong woman. She makes sure to help Robb without making him look like a child and she cares for her family so much. Her and Cersei are the most powerful women in this book which makes me like them. Jaime got capture which is probably the best part of that chapter.
Questions: How do you think Cersei and the Lannisters will react to Jaime being the Starks captive? What will they do about it?

6th Reading
I missed posting last week but right now there is a lot of action taking place in this part of the book. First Ned stark finally confronts Joffery and Sersy with the will of the Late king Robet, but when he does he is betrayed by Littefinger and the lasts of his men are slaughtered. No Sersy makes Sansa write a letter to Winterfell saying that Ned is a traitor and they must come and swear allegance or he wil be killed. It is not directly said but it is implied. At this point Rob is in control of Winterfel by himself with Catelyn not being there. When he recieves the letter he knows it is not truly Sansa who is writing the letter. Rob calls upon the banners and leaves Bran in charge of all of the North. While all this happens it pushes Jofferey into power, I personally hate him and I am expecting him to run the Kingdom into the ground. I think he is slightly crazy frim being inbred. I think back to when Ned and Sersy were talking in the courtyard and she spoke of how the Targaryns did it for years but failed to mention that they were all crazy. The things that Joffery likes are not norma for a young person. Someone tries to kill Dany at a market but she is saved by her protector and when Khal drogo finds out about it he swears totake over the world for her.
GoT 6
Things really get crazy during this section of reading.
There is a power struggle on who will control the throne. Ned seems like the
right fit for the job, but his honor drags him down. He trusts to many people.
Littlefinger betrays Ned, which I thought was surprising because he seemed to
be on good terms with Ned. Robert dies and Joffrey is going to be king. Rob is
leading an army into war while Jon finds out about his fathers betrayal. Jon is
again attacked in this chapter but Ghost saves him. I think we are going to see
a climax in the plot soon, as all characters seem to be at a peak in character
development.

GoT 6
Part of me
was not surprised at all when Littlefinger turned out to be a traitor. I saw
that coming from the very beginning. The conversation they had when the king
was still barely alive all makes sense now. The chaos that happens from that point
forward is just mad. What also makes me mad is how Cersei can completely
manipulate Sansa into thinking her father is a traitor even though all he did
was give the letter from the king to Cersei. Because the queen wasn’t happy
with his decision, she told her men to arrest him.
Sansa also
makes me so mad. She is so blinded by her love for Joffrey that she doesn’t even
realize what she was doing was wrong when the queen told her to write the
letters to Cat and Robb. She wants to marry Joffrey so badly that she will do
anything to get back onto the queens side. Sansa, in my opinion, is almost as
bad as the lannisters.
Arya is a
complete and total badass. The way she overcame her fears and ran from the
gaurds to hide and then once she got to the stables and killed the stable boy
because he was going to turn her in. I loved that she admitted to forgetting
everything Syrio had taught her but the one thing she remembered came
from Jon.
I was
slightly disappointed that Jon was officially part of the Night’s Watch. I’m
not sure where he’s going to go from there / what influence he’s going to have.
I definitely think something will come out of him becoming a steward from
Maester Aemon.
GoT 6
This section begins with a chapter from Eddard's point of view in which we find out Robert is dead. This means that Cersei's incest won't be found out by Robert but she knows that Ned will still attempt to expose her. Ned brings her Robert's will which now states that Joffery shouldn't be king but she gets rid of it and then sets word that Ned has betrayed the kingdom. This just exemplifies how much of a bitch Cersci is and how manipulative she is. She is now turning Ned's family against him and she gets Sansa to write to her family to not wage war by exploiting her love for Joffery. At the wall, Jon and his search party find two bodies that get identified as Ben's group. They take the bodies back to the wall but one body becomes animated and attacks Jon after an outburst he has during dinner. Is this the curse of the White Walkers? Khal Drogo decides to launch an invasion. Dany is almost murdered while Tyrion meets his father. I think it is interesting how the bastards interact in terms of incidents with their fathers. Jon is locked away due to his mad loyalty to Ned while Tyrion needs to enlist the help of his father to prevent war. It will be interesting to see how everything pans out.
GOT 6
Seeing how i have neglected to post in a while this seems like the perfect place to pick back up. the book is finally getting to the part i was talking about in the last discussion. The peak is here. The starks and the lannisters finally decided to take all of there talk and turn it into action. We get to the actually title of the book and they have a game of thrones where Eddard loses because he is too cocky. When Robert died, the turn of events after really make the book move forward. The fact that Rob leads a whole army and is still a teenager says a lot about the character development martin is taking us through. This is also shown through bran being a crippled and being left to lead a whole kingdom (the north) by himself. I think martin's conversation about young people in this book gets a twist in it when joffrey actually gets into power. Ruling the kingdom and only being 10 is a lot of responsibility and i personally don't like him. His weird fascination with death bothers me. Thats not normal for a little kid.Other big things that happen in this section are that we finally find out that the Others mentioned in the beginning of the book are real. John fights a revived one. Also khal drogo says he swears to cross the sea even tho him and his kind don't like water. It'll be interesting to see if he actually does. I honestly cant believe the book is almost over. I feel like there is so much more to talk about and figure out. How are Robb and Jofferey both going to have power over the kingdom. thats definitely going to end up bad. I'm excited to get to the end.
g o t 6
This reading was packed with all sorts of action. The first chapter was Robert dying and Joffery becoming king. Ned tries to show the will saying that it should not be Joffery, but Cercie rips it up. Petyr turns and kills Ned, and holds him captive. We also she Arya kill a stable boy, while Sansa is with Cercie, as she tries to manipulate Sansa. This continues to show the differences between the sisters and their personal strength. Jon is told about his father being taken and starts up a fight. This brings us back to where Jon's loyalty lies. It is interesting to see which side he takes in different situations. Bran didnt give us a whole lot besides some on Robb's growing power. Tyrion also meets up with his father and his father acts as he usually is, very distant, judgment and cold towards him.
My questions are what will happen with Jon at the Nights watch now that he is sworn in? Will he make shifts in who he is loyal with or who he trusts? What will be the responses to the issues with Ned? Will Arya continue to hold up being independent or will weakness finally shine through? What poor decisions will Sansa make because of her influences? I was reading through looking for things to apply to my paper, and I didn't really see anything to really apply. I know that previous chapters, like the bird with Bran, and the family animal applies.
I am curious to see how things continue on and who will end up attacking, or in power.

GoT p 618
This past reading is what we as a reader have been waiting for. This whole book we can tell that the tension between the Lannisters and the Starks would turn to swords when Robbert died and that moment has come. More important than the plot of the book is how the main characters respond to it. Rob immediately takes actions and calls the banner even as i read it the second time amazes me. He is no more than 14 years old and yet he has the maturity to lead an army into battle. When i was 14 my main concern was what nintendo 64 game i should play where as Rob is burdened with leading thousands of men and attempting to save his father. This leaves Brann to watch over the north at the age of 8. Brann leading shocks me even more not only is this child dealing the emotions of no longer being able to walk again he is basically ruling a whole city! Although i knew it was coming it still upsets me that Jofferey is now the ruler of the kingdom. He is already showing signs of mental instability with his enjoyment of death and his sense of entitlement and power is horrible for a 10 year old to have especially when he has the power to imprison and kill whomever he wants. Littlefinger is also an interesting character to watch. At first when we meet Littlefinger we know his motives are all related to gaining him money or power but his betrayal of Ned believes to think he is after something else. Regardless if Little finger helped Ned or Jofferey take the throne he still would hold his possession in office if not gain more power so my discussion question is: Why do we think Litttlefinger chose to help Jofferey over Ned? And What do we think will happen to Ned and Sansa as they are held captive by the Lannisters?
Game
of Thrones Analysis VI
In this week’s Game of Thrones analysis, pages
523-618 are reviewed. As mentioned last week, Ned attempts to keep Joffrey from
becoming the new king by taking over as interim leader. In the throne room, Ned
is turned on by his own “soldiers” and Littlefinger himself. Ned is then jailed
for treason. Shortly after, the kingdom goes haywire as Lannister guards fight
those loyal to the Starks until one by one they’re killed off. Lannister guards
come for Arya and Syrio Forel defends her upon resisting. Arya soon realizes
how skilled with a sword Syrio truly is when he defeats four armed guards with
a wooden sword. Arya flees the scene after the final guard manages to cut the
wooden sword in half and we’re left without knowing how the fight ends, resembling
the Schrodinger’s Cat Paradox. Arya retreats the castle safely and makes for
Winterfell. Sansa, however, is not that fortunate. In her blinding and often
ignorant “love” for Joffrey, she convinces herself to trust the Lannisters.
Cersei bargains with Sansa to write letters to the Starks and convince them to
take allegiance to the new “king” of the throne, Joffrey. In return, Sansa is
promised she will be able to marry her Joffrey one day. At Winterfell, Robb
Stark responds to the letters by calling the banners and march to war. Robb had
grown much as a leader in the absence of Ned and Catelyn. He brings a
respectable sized army to battle. When they stop at Moat Caitlin, Catelyn
rejoins her son. Meanwhile on the Wall, The Others are real! Jon fights a
reincarnated Othor at Master Aemon’s quarters. In other news, Khal Drogo swears
to cross the sea and dominate the seven Kingdoms. Finally, Tyrion leads his
barbarian pack to meet up with Tywin Lannister. In a negotiation, Tywin is to
command a force of soldiers under Tywin’s allegiance.
Questions/Thoughts:
1. Winter
is just about here. How does Martin expect to fit all of these climaxes, not to
mention a sound conclusion, with less than 200 pages left in the book? Anxious
to see how Martin comes to any satisfying partial conclusion without totally
finishing the book with the line “go buy GoT 2 to find out what happens next!”
2. Robb
vs. Joffrey…somewhere down the line, even if it is in one of the succeeding books,
I see it happening.

Two characters that really caught my attention in this section are Bran and Robb. When reading about them you would think that they are so much older than they are and it blows my mind how young they are. Bran is the same age as my little sister and I can't even compare the two. He understands so much about what is happening and what war means for someone that is only 8 years old. Same with Robb, it is weird to think that he is only 15 years old yet he has all these older men looking to him on what they should do next. He's pretty much leading an army into battle and he isn't even 16 yet! I also have more of a dislike of the Lannister's now. I realized how much power they actually have. No one will listen to anyone but them and Cersei is very manipulative. I don't believe Joffery is ready to take over and I'm hoping Sansa see's him for who he really is soon. Sansa it so caught up in being married to him that i think its effecting her judgement and makes it easy to mess with her mind like Cersei did. I don't understand how the Lannister's can go around and destroy towns and burn things down like they do. I'm curious to see how things turn out and if there will actually be a war between the Lannister's and the Tullys and whoever else.
Will Robb be able to handle to responsibility of leading an army? Will he break under the pressure?

This section is particularly interesting in how Ned's decisions effect others. For one thing, in the game of thrones Eddard Stark loses. He is too honorable and too trusting of the council to see that he has very little support around him for a decision that may be unpopular but ultimately would have saved him from imprisonment. Confronting the queen though allowed for her to gain time to make her next move in this game of thrones. Cersei is smart and cunning and she lacks the honor that Ned has so when he threatens her to get her to leave it was never likely that she would abandon a kingdom that could potentially be under her control. I also worry about the maturity of Joffery in the section where Ned is taken by Littlefinger. Though it would be upsetting to lose the throne he acts much like Robert Arryn when it is said that he has little to no right to the Iron Throne. From their on it is as though there is a domino effect of the Lannisters going after the Stark children. The Arya situation was very poorly handled by those who would care very little about whether she lives or dies. Sansa seems to be the only one spared by Cersei who despite having taken Ned out of play would have her still marry Joffery, I can't think of why she does this other than to hold on to as many of the Starks as possible during Ned's imprisonment
GOT
This section of reading was very interesting and had lots of plot twists. We find out that Robert dies and that Cersei declares that Joferry is the new king. Ned confronts her but then everyone betrays Ned, the main person to betray him is Littlefinger. But the funny thing is that Littlefinger told Ned to his face that he should not trust him. The Lannisters start this huge war and start killing just everyone in sight. Aryia runs away and we haven't heard of her since. Sansa is stupid and doesn't think for herself and believes what Cersei tells her about "love" and how Prince Joferry will be happy. She writes a letter to the kingdoms telling everyone that she is okay and asking the Starks not to start a civil war. Jon's chapter is a little confusing he find out that his father is being held captive and he wants to do something about it, but what. Jon gets in trouble and gets sent to his room and he as another dream again so he wakes up and all of a sudden there is a snow zombie trying to kill Mormont. Jon finally burns this snow zombie and the building. We find out that Robb calls the banners and will go to war with the Lannisters. We meet Tywin and he is a very silent character doesn't say much but he knows that Robb is nothing like his dad he is just a child.
Questions: Who will win this war or will it be resolved? Are there more snow zombies and what will happen to Jon for burning down the tower?

GOT 6
In this reading we jump in with Robert dying and Ned trying to do the honorable thing and giving Cercie the letter. The letter is immediately ripped up and Ned is said to of commit treason. Joeffrey now has the throne and we all know that cannot be good. Its crazy because everything seems to change in an instant. Once Ned was seen as the enemy Arya and Sansa were also treated differently. Arya tries to escape Kings Landing before she is captured and Sansa gets brainwashed by Cersie thinking that her father committed treason. Sansa is super annoying actually because she can't get the thought of marrying Joeffrey out of her head which is obviously going to end up badly and her manners and her need to be "a lady" is really not helping her out. Jons chapter was quite interesting as the 'others' are brought back briefly when Jon saves Mormont from a dead man they found in the woods who happened to be an other. This gives Jon brownie points and Mormont looks at him differently now. Catelyn and Robb meet up as they start to brew up some plans to attack the Lannisters. It almost seems like Catelyn is getting Robb ready to fight a war, trying to help him fulfill the role of Lord Stark. Tyrion meets up with his father as they prepare for Robbs attack and Dany gets Drogo to sail over seas to take over the seven kingdoms after she is almost poisoned but doesn't like the methods of getting ready for the voyage as they need a lot of slaves that they treat very badly.
I think at this point in the book all the characters are coming into their own and are forced to make their own decisions, especially in the Stark family. They don't have eachother to rely on anymore and everything is turning around on them. I actually watched this episode before reading this part of the book and it made it really hard to read this part of the book because I knew what was coming. I'm glad I did this though because I think it will be a helpful point of view in my essay.
- Sansa and Cerseie have a strange relationship as Cerseie seems to control Sansa. Why is Cerseie so set on Sansa marrying Joeffrey?
- It seems like Jon is questioning loyalty whether to stay in the Nightswatch or to go fight the war with his brother. Why is Jon questioning going with his family? Is it because he was raised to be loyal and honorable or is it some hidden feelings about his bastard family?

In this section of reading the plot really starts getting interesting (not that it wasn't interesting before). We finally have the final conflict in King's Landing over who will gain control of the throne. It seemed like Ned had control of it but he repeatedly trusted people that he shouldn't have. Littlefinger's betrayal was certainly a shock because he genuinely seemed to be on Ned's side. However, he did warn Ned several chapters ago not to trust him. So after all that, Cersei is going to end up winning and the little brat Joffrey is going to be king eventually. But not if Robb has anything to say about it. He's assembled an army of 12,000 men and has started marching South. Robb is forced to grow up a lot faster than he should. He's only fourteen yet he is leading an army into war. It seems impossible to ask him to do such a thing but so far he's been doing the job well. Up North on the Wall, Jon finds out about his father's "treason" and is furious over it. They also have brought the body that they found back to the wall. It turns out to be an other and attack Mormont, but Jon with the help of Ghost saves him. We meet Tywin for the first time and he seems like a very cold person. Cold, but professional. He appears to be a person who doesn't laugh much but he'll always get the job done. He also underestimates Robb which should be a big advantage for him.

This
section of the book is so good! I could barely put it down, so much happens and
I just cannot stop reading. When Ned came into the room to declare that Joff
was not becoming the next king and there Joff was sitting on the throne in my
mind it was very similar to when Ned came in and found Jaime sitting on the
throne and made him give it up. It’s like Jaime sitting on the throne was
foreshadowing the Lannisters taking power again.
Arya’s
section just made me like her even more, she’s so sneaky and smart being able
to get away. She’s way better than Sansa in my mind, Sansa just is so naïve and
has no idea what is really going on, she’s too selfish over her own life and
worried about what other people will think of her to see the world how it
really is.
Robb
really steps up in this section too and it blows my mind that he is only 15 and
here he is commanding an army into war. And to think that you can’t even drive
at 15 now. Even Catelyn is amazed at how much he has grown up in the time that
she has been away. I think Catelyn really needs to go back to Winterfell, I mean
on of the things that I can’t get over is little Rickon. The kid is barely 4
years old and everyone has abandoned him! I feel so bad for him and his mother
needs to get back to take care of him!
Tyrion
I have grown to like so much more throughout the book, everything he says is
sarcastic and funny. He has a good outlook on life for his situation and he
doesn’t wallow in self pity over the fact his father doesn’t pay attention to
him, he just accepts it and continues to make snide remarks. He really does
have some of the best lines in the book.
