Game of Thrones 1-75

Game of thrones has been one of my favorite television shows this past year.
It was interesting to read the book and see how the television show compares to the novel. I would say it was very similar. A lot of books adapted to screen, whether it be television or film, take artistic liberties and change the storyline. There were lines in the book that I remember from the television show that was said verbatim. The book opens north of the wall with the nights watch. We see wildlings and white walkers kill the members of the nights watch. As the book goes on we meet Ned Stark, the main heroic type character. He lives with his family, which includes his wife Catelyn, his children Bran, Arya, Sansa, Robb, Rickon, and his bastard Jon Snow. They live in Winterfell which is the northern part of the their world. The main event that occurs in the first 75 page was the death of Jon Arryn. Jon Arryn was the hand of the King, which is basically the vice president, or second in command. Jon was married to Catelyn’s sister and was a good friend of Ned. The King comes to Winterfell to convince Ned to become the new hand of the King. Ned accepts and later finds news that the last hand of the king was murdered. The Lannister’s, the richest family in this world, are accused of killing Jon Arryn. The Lannister’s consist of three siblings: Cereisi, Jaime, and Tyrion. Cereisi is married to the King,, Jaime is a war hero and Tyrion is a dwarf. Joeffry is the child Ceriesi had with the King. Joeffry is a cocky cowardly character who is set to marry Ned Starks oldest daughter Sansa. The final chapter ends with Joeffry confronting Robb Stark. This is surely foreshadowing future events  between the houses of Stark and Lannister.
