homework 2/20
The character and chapter I read and chose to respond to was Catelyn's chapter when she is depressed. She is my favorite character so far because I tend to always be a fan of a strong female character. Though this chapter shows her emotional side it also shows her brave side. When I made my list, the number one thing I put was the phrase "I can't". Not only was this used mods than seven, it seemed to show the significance of the situation, and how it was effecting the characters. In the chapter Catelyn repeats this phrase when she is saying she cannot do anything but sit by her son's bed, no matter how much other people protest this. She appears helpless and lost in her emotions. She is not thinking clearly adn is going half made it seems. Another thing I thought was interesting was to point out peacefulness versus unsettled behavior. It seems backwards that the sick one is peaceful while Catelyn, the perfectly healthy character is disturbed and almost crippled by Bran's condition. A parallel thought to this is how Bran was described warm, while Catelyn is said to be ice cold; it feels as thought the characteristics are switched. Though this shows her weakest side, I think the fact that she turns around and is able to be proactive shows her real strength. Even her action while depressed shows her love and loyalty to her family which are two important characteristics to obtain. I am curious to see where she goes in the story and how she develops as a queen, mother, and person in this setting.
