GoT p 618
This past reading is what we as a reader have been waiting for. This whole book we can tell that the tension between the Lannisters and the Starks would turn to swords when Robbert died and that moment has come. More important than the plot of the book is how the main characters respond to it. Rob immediately takes actions and calls the banner even as i read it the second time amazes me. He is no more than 14 years old and yet he has the maturity to lead an army into battle. When i was 14 my main concern was what nintendo 64 game i should play where as Rob is burdened with leading thousands of men and attempting to save his father. This leaves Brann to watch over the north at the age of 8. Brann leading shocks me even more not only is this child dealing the emotions of no longer being able to walk again he is basically ruling a whole city! Although i knew it was coming it still upsets me that Jofferey is now the ruler of the kingdom. He is already showing signs of mental instability with his enjoyment of death and his sense of entitlement and power is horrible for a 10 year old to have especially when he has the power to imprison and kill whomever he wants. Littlefinger is also an interesting character to watch. At first when we meet Littlefinger we know his motives are all related to gaining him money or power but his betrayal of Ned believes to think he is after something else. Regardless if Little finger helped Ned or Jofferey take the throne he still would hold his possession in office if not gain more power so my discussion question is: Why do we think Litttlefinger chose to help Jofferey over Ned? And What do we think will happen to Ned and Sansa as they are held captive by the Lannisters?
