-In Sansa's chapter she's allowed to go through the kingdom but is always being escorted which is strange if she really thinks she feels free. Cersei also names Jaime as Lord Commander to the Kingsguard. And Sansa begs for her father to be pardoned but Cersei and Joffrey say its possible if he admits to his crimes. The next chapter, Eddard is confronted by Varys and pretty much told he has to commit to the crimes that Cersei and Joffrey want him too and he'll be permitted to join the Night's watch and tell his son to stop the battle, or else Sansa may be next to get hurt. In Catelyn's chapter she works out an agreement with Lord Walder that includes Robb marrying one of his daughters, and Arya is to marry Elmar Frey if she is still alive. In Jons chapter, there is still no sign of Benjen and Jon gets a gift from Lord Commander for saving his life. Jon also is confronted by the Maester about not fleeing the wall to go protect his father and tells him that he understands how Jon feels. In Dany's first chapter of this section she does a big deed by helping a girl who is being raped and making it stop. Khal drogo also is injured and refuses to see the healer and has pretty serious injuries. This girl Dany saves is able to help Drogo and stitch him up and Dany asks this lady to help her when she has her child. In Tyrion's chapter, he has sex with a whore which is significant because this is the first time this has happened since the girl his brother hired to have sex with him. Tyrion also actually goes to battle and comes out alive holding his own. In Catelyns chapter, Robb goes to battle with Jaime and actually takes him prisoner along with several other men. In Dany's last chapter Drogo is slowly dying because he has not followed the orders of his healer. Mirri tries to perfrom a ritual to save Drogo, and during all of this craziness, Dany goes into labor.
- I think this reading had me, more than any other, asking so many questions and making predictions as to what could possibly happen next. I think Jon is still battling this loyalty issue and I want him to leave and go help his family but at the same time I dont want him to get himself in trouble with the Night's Watch. I'm wondering if the Starks will think Jon isn't loyal to them if he does not come fight along side Robb and the others. Also, I think Dany's actions in the next few chapters could be interesting. If Drogo dies, will she automatically try taking over the seven kingdoms and prepare for battle? I think this will be interesting to see how her decisions play out. Also, now that Robb has captured Jaime as a prisoner, it could be interesting to see if they work out a trade to get Ned back. I think capturing Jaime bought Ned more time to figure out another option rather than going to the Nights Watch or dying.
Discussion Questions:
- Do we think the Starks will think Jon is not loyal to them if he does not leave the Nights Watch and come fight along side of them?
- What do we think Dany will do once she gives birth, especially if Drogo is dead? Will she try to capture the seven kingdoms right away?
- Do we feel as if Tyrion is gaining respect from his family through being able to hold his own more?
