We first find our at Robert is dead, and just as Ned tells
the Council with Robert’s letter Cersei rips it up so no one can read it. I believe this
is the start of her emerging as a new powerful hand within the Kingdom. I think
she will be one of the strongest characters for the rest of the book because
she now controls almost everything and everyone with her manipulation and her
ability to dangle her power above anyone who tries to get in her way. The letter being ripped causes much distraught
and a violent fight occurs as Littlefinger takes Ned captive because he is being blamed. Cersei then convinces Sansa that her father is guilty of treason and in
order to marry Joffrey she must believe her and obey her. Sansa who wants to become a princess and one day rule feels like she has no choice. We then discover she is
not the innocent girl we once believed she was because she betrayed Ned by being the
one who told Cersei her father was going to force them all to leave. I feel like
this chapter is pretty heavy with fighting and battle for power because other than Ned and Sansa, Jon also
fights other night watchers because they are gossiping and making fun of his
father, whom he admires dearly. Like Arya he is taken captive, but doesn’t escape.
He is sent to a room alone, which he has an epic battle with a man brought back
earlier, who turns out to be not what he expected. Jon shows a battle of power because he already feels like he is an upper hand at the night watch with his social status being higher then the others. So as he defends his family, he also is defending his place in the night watchers social system.
