GOT 523 - 618

This section of reading it seemed that a lot of dramatic things happened, but at the same time, they were all kind of expected. Beginning with Ned's chapter, we learn that Robert has passed and Joffery is 'declared' king by Cersei. Ned then goes running to Cersei with the will wrote by Robert that states Joffery should not take the throne. Cersei immediately rips the letter which we could have seen coming. Petyr turns on Ned, killing his men and putting a sword to his neck. Earlier in the book, it was foreshadowed that Petyr was not one to trust. I think a lot will come from Ned being held captive. A lot of questions come of this as well, will Ned spill the beans about Robert's children? Will Ned hold to his honor and keep the secrets he holds? We then move on to Ayra where we read that she has learned a lot from her lessons, as she kills a stable boy with Needle. Again we saw this coming with Needle, yet this was still very unexpected of Arya. Arya shows some of her independence as she is trying to escape King's Landing by herself. This escape will tell us a lot of Arya, is she really as strong as she thinks? Or will her adolescent side come forth if something goes wrong? Sansa on the other hand is getting brainwashed by Cersei as she is telling her to write letters to her family saying they should not start war. Sansa shows her weakness in this chapter as she should know not to send those letters, yet still does just for what she calls "her love for Joffery". This also is a sign for her loss of loyalty as she has already turned on her family. Jon and the Night's Watch bring back two corpses. I got a tad lost here, were these members of Ben's crew? Someone then spills the beans to Jon about his father being arrested which triggers Jon to start a fight with a boy who had been making fun of him. This chapter also brings up Jon's loyalty to his family versus the Night's Watch. Although he is sworn in the Night's Watch, it will be interesting to see if he remains there or will resort back to the Stark's side. In the next scene I was a little confused as well, as Jon fights one of the 'dead' people. Was this person an 'other'? In Bran's chapter, there isn't much on Bran, instead we learn that Robb is calling his men and heading south. This chapter was interesting though, because we get the impression that Robb is becoming quite powerful in his new role, giving orders and such. In Dany's chapter, Khal insists that he would rather not invade another continent, but after learning about the assassination attempt on Dany, he is quick in deciding to invade the Seven Kingdoms. Later on, Catelyn and Robb meet up and discuss the "plans" which is where we get again the impression of the power Robb has. In Tyrion's chapter, he finally meets up with his father, who seems a little cold towards Tyrion. He once again does some convincing to get the men to come along and fight the Stark's with him.

What will it take, if anything, for Jon to go back to the loyalty of his family?
What is going to come out of Ned being held captive? Will he spill the beans about Robert and his real children? Will he remain honorable to his dead friend?
