Game
of Thrones Analysis IV
This
week’s Game of Thrones analysis covers pages 338-433. While roaming
King’s Landing, Arya becomes lost and finds herself in a hidden chamber. She
overhears two men discussing the death of Jon Arryn, and how Ned has found “the
book” and “the bastard”. She perceives one of them to be a wizard. Upon
relaying this to Ned herself, he disregards the story. Later, Ned quarrels with
Robert over the plan to murder Danaerys and resigns as the Hand. Ned visits a
brothel with Littlefinger and upon leaving, is intercepted by Jaime Lannister. Jaime’s
men, in the retaliation of Tyrion Lannister, kill Jory Cassel and another of
Ned’s guards. Ned breaks his leg while defending his men. Ned wakes up and is
questioned by Robert and Cersei. Ned holds nothing back, bringing up Robert’s
bastard, questioning Robert’s justice. He is angered, fueled by Cersei, but
understanding of Ned and ultimately demands Ned to stay Hand.
Meanwhile,
Catelyn and Tyrion meet with Lysa Arryn after enduring a brutal trip on the
high road. An emotionally flustered Lysa, decides Tyrion’s fate shall be
decided in combat at Tyrion’s request. A sellsword who traveled the high road
with Tyrion vouches to fight in place of Tyrion. The sellsword surprisingly
makes quick work of the opponent, killing him, and frees Tyrion. Bran is held
hostage, while out on a ride, by deserters of the Black. Robb, Theon, and the
direwolves rush in to save him.
My questions/thoughts about the
reading:
1. I
believe one of the men Arya overheard was Viserys, specifically because she
found one of them to be extremely large, as is Viserys.
