GoT Final

I thought the ending was awesome and really leaves you with a cliffhanger. Dany is now a complete badass and I loved the way it turns out with her being “reborn” in the flames and walking out with the dragon eggs. I was thrown off a little bit by the death of her unborn child. When Drogo is brought back to life but in a vegetable state, I get a sense of karma for Dany. She called Viserys the dragon but this whole time she was the Targaryen who must “become” the dragon. Ned’s death is one of the best parts for me not because I didn’t like Ned but rather because I like that Martin kills off arguably one of the most important characters. This is a book series so I like that he already killed off a main character so early. I was expecting Ned to get out of his execution and, while I hate Joffery, I’m kind of glad that the book took a different turn because it is refreshing. I don’t know why but I found Jon Snow’s attempted departure from the Wall interesting. I thought at first when he left the wall, he would be executed but instead he finds support and common sense in his brothers back up on the wall. I’m getting a feeling that Jon will become a big part of the upcoming books. I feel as if he and Robb are going to be major factors as the series moves forward. I’m curious to how the search for Benjen will turn out. I feel like the wall will become a crucial component in the war even though they insist being neutral. I also feel like we have just seen the beginning of the white walkers and The Others. I like that Sansa now doesn’t see Joffery as the best thing around but overall still hate her character. It disappoints me that she waited until Ned gets beheaded to realize how much of an asshole Joffery becomes during his time as king. I mean Joffery does nothing as his father-in-law’s men are killed and then proceeds to also kill Ned. I really hope that when it’s Joffery’s time, he experiences a real painful and agonizing death. The same goes for Cersci because she is the puppet master behind Joffery and the chaos that has ensued. I’m curious to see whether or not Danys will now try and challenge Cersci as the most powerful woman in the kingdom. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and really want to start watching the T.V show. It’s a different kind of fantasy and it really isn’t too hard to follow. The names can get confusing but other than that, everything seems pretty straight forward. I would and have been recommending the book to other people. I am really interested in reading the other books in the series. While 800 pages is long, I feel it is worth it to keep on with the rest of the series.
