Final GOT

In quick summary of this reading, right of the bat we are forced to witness Eddard’s death. Although at times I felt as if this could be expected at certain points in the book, I still was shocked reading through this chapter. Moving on to Bran’s chapter, a raven delivers a message to Bran and Rikkon reporting the death of their father. I've seen to lose interest in Bran, although I have no exact reasoning. It may just be the fact he is not falling off buildings anymore. In Sansa’s chapter it is clear that she is over Joffery, one because he executed her father, two because of his mean and overpowering attitude now holding the throne. In Dany’s chapter, the main event was learning that her baby had died after birth, which means most likely that was due to save Drogo’s life. Mirri also informs Dany that this was all done in revenge. In the end, Dany kills Drogo to take him out of his misery. Tyrion takes off to King’s Landing to take over the Hand of the King, which he was told so by his unsupportive father. Jon finally breaks down and takes off from the Wall to fight with the Stark’s. He is quickly brought back the other boys and is promises to be by Mormont’s side as they go see what the fuss is about beyond the wall. Whether it be with the war going on or with the missing of Ben Stark. Robb is named King of the North by Catelyn’s dying father. Dany ends the book with her eggs hatching into baby dragons.

I felt as if Ned would play a large role in the following novels, which led me to believe Ned would have not been killed in this novel, and evidently I was wrong. I think Ned represented respect and honor throughout the land, and with him gone I am not sure how the war and the future will pan out. Ned, for me, kept the book sane, and I have a feeling it will just make the book that more crazy.  I feel a little sympathy for Sansa after finishing the book. She clearly is struggling with Joffery at this point, and it would be interesting to find out exactly what the future holds for her, with or without Joffery. In the beginning of the book, Dany was given the back seat in my opinion. As the book continued on, she gained more and more power, which led to a more interesting character. I think out of all the characters, she has the most going for her at this point. The whole dragon eggs were a little too unrealistic to me, and when they hatched at the end, I wasn’t a big fan. Being not an overall fantasy reader, then to see this happen was a little far stretched for my liking. One of the biggest questions left unanswered in my opinion is where is Ben Stark? Although we are left with the idea of Jon and Mormont eventually finding the answers, I would have rather learned where Ben is by the time I reached the final page. Jon has been my favorite character from cover to cover which may lead my interest in Ben as well. The book did not end with the answers to my questions, instead I feel as if it left me with more, which I don’t necessarily like. As I said before, I am not a big fantasy reader, but this wasn’t as bad as I anticipated. Although I won’t be buying the next novel, I feel as if I may have some interest in the HBO series.
