The ending wrap up of this book is an action packed last bit. Ned is finally killed. I wasnt sure if I saw this coming because it felt like at times that is was going to happen, but it is unlikely to me for main characters to be killed off; I am so use to main characters always making it through hard times. Bran gets a delivered message from a raven carrying the news of his father's death. Sansa makes it clear that she no longer has feelings for Joffery because of his attitude with the power and that he had her father killed. We find out in Dany's chapter that her baby died after birth maybe to help heal Drogo. We also see that it was all done out of revenge. Dany kills Drogo to stop the pain. After watching some of this from the tv series I became a fan of the couple. Maybe that was just how they made them act together but I thought with the circumstances they actually worked well together. Tyrion goes to King's landing to run the Hand of the King. Jon leaves the wall finally to help fight for his family but is brought back. And we see Robb becoming king of the north.
When the book was first introduced to us as a class reading I was worried. I didnt think I would find it interesting and I was worried it would be a slow read and I wouldnt be able to follow. Though there was so much going on with all of the characters I still believed I got a good understanding. Also for it being so long I thought it was a fast read and I could follow most of the plot. The best part about the book is all the different prospectives and how they all react and interact with one another. There were a lot of surprises that kept me guessing which I enjoyed. What I did not see happening the most was the death of Ned and I think that helps stand this book out from others. Other books feel so predictable. There are a few main characters and then they go through hard times and make it work somehow. This book challenged those thoughts and right when you thought you knew something the author would change it. The issue I have with this book was the ending was meant to make you buy the next book to have a fulfilling ending. Though I think series are great, I feel as though a book should be able to be a complete story with tied up ends. That doesnt mean that these people's stories cant continue but I need a settled feeling and instead I got an unsettling feeling that the author is just trying to sell more books and that rubs me the wrong way personally. All in all for being a genre of book that I dont find myself jumping into, I still enjoyed it.
