Final GoT

I absolutely loved Game of Thrones. I thought it was so well written and was so fascinating the way it brought in supernatural elements. I love the way Martin made you fall in love with certain characters (Ned, Robb, Jon, Arya, etc.) while making you absolutely despise others (cough, cough, Joffery). The ending was not was I expected at all but was a perfect way to end the book with Robb leading the North and Dany hatching 3 baby dragons. No doubt am I going to buy the second book and start reading as soon as possible. When Ned was killed I basically cried. I even refused to believe it for the next few chapters because he was such an important character that I thought it was basically impossible for him to be eliminated. In a way, I actually liked that the killing of one of the main characters, and one of my favorite characters, caught me off guard because I wouldn’t have guessed it. The book is especially interesting because it is completely unpredictable. A perfect example of this is how Kahl Drogo’s wounds turned into him dying. I did not expect that at all. Nor did I expect Joffrey to completely disregard Sansa plea to save her fathers life.
In my opinion, the most disturbing scene in the novel was when Dany ate the horse heart. I only think that because I don’t like blood but it fit the Dothraki culture. There were many disturbing scenes, though. Like when they killed Ned. That scene has wonderful descriptive language and I liked how it was taken from Arya’s point of view. Sansa is becoming less annoying because she has finally come to her senses and realized that Joffrey is a horrible, power hungry boy.
My favorite character is probably Arya. I like her the most because she is just a free spirit and she does what she wants. She is so true to herself and wont fake anything. She doesn’t care what people think of her and is so loyal to Ned and her family. My other favorite character would have to be Jon. I feel so sorry for him that he doesn’t have a family and that he’s stuck on the Wall for the rest of his life. I do think he is such an honorable character though, the way he wanted to fight with Robb for his father and left even though he knew he was risking his life.
I would definitely recommend this book to my friends. I also plan on watching Season 1 of the show now that I’ve finished the first book. I am so interested on how Dany’s dragons will develop along with how the war the Robb will fight against the Lannisters.
