GOT 523-618

This section started off with Ned finding out Robert was dead, having Cersei defy "Roberts" will by ripping it up, and then taking Ned captive by Vary's betrayal. It then moves on to Arya and Syrio working on their last lesson in kings landing as the kingsguard comes in to take Arya captive. Arya holds to her suspicion and refuses to go which ends in a fight to the death between Syrio and the kingsguard and Arya trying to flee from kings landing. In the process of Arya trying to flee, she ends up utilizing her first kill with needle. Next, the story moves to Sansa who until three days after her father was taken captive in the dungeon had been taken captive herself in the tower. Upon her finally being able to leave and still being stuck in her fantasy world of gumdrops and lollipops, she was escorted to King Joffrey and Cersei where the told her of her father's "crime" and then tried to validate her as a loyal. To prove her loyalty and her desire to marry Joffrey, Sansa was to write a letter to her family and tell them to pledge their loyalty to Joffrey. John had been trying to understand the situation with the hand while ranging where Sam gained a little more courage and was able to use his smarts to receive a compliment and help explain some of the strange occurrences of the hand and the found bodies and John had to save Ser Mormont in the end by burning the immortal body. Bran is studying the houses and their men as his brother is preparing to go to war. Bran has an account with Osha who tells him that he should not worry about the Southern war as much as the Northern where the "real" battle is taking place. Bran has to take over the kingdom while his brother bids farewell and has to deal with his insecurity of his injury and his baby brother Rickon who still isn't comprehending the necessity of it all. The next chapter was from Dany's perspective. Dany is trying to convince Drogo to take a ship over to the free cities and when unsuccessful goes to a market where she is almost poisoned by an usurper due to King Robert's orders to have her killed. The next chapter comes from Catelyn's perspective all in all this is her first encounter with her son in a while and all the while she helps him plan his thoughts and tactics for the war ahead preparing him to act like his father. The last chapter is from Tyrion's perspective. Tyrion rides back to his fathers camp and this is the first time the audience sees his real relationship with his father and the insecurities he faces. He ends up being put on the front line in battle, and uses his savages with him.

In this particular section we find that the hero seems to fall from Ned, to Arya, to Tyrion. While they fall for different reasons there seems to be a climatic shift because Ned has been the holding factor the entire time for this book.

Do you think Ned will begin to be personified as a villain?
Is there foreshadowing to Robb taking over all of the seven kingdoms? If so what's hinting at it?
In what ways does Arya model a man in the kingdoms? Is she picking up Jon's slack?
