violent movies/video games

I think it is fair to say that before reading these articles i came in with somewhat of a basis to the issue of violent video games and cinema (being that there is a small if not any between violent video games and movies), that being said I still see the point that the authors were bringing up in the articles. Lets start with article four since its the most fresh in my mind. It brought up (like all of the other articles) the issue of violent movies and took the stance that the movies were the cause of our cultures and presented evidence that they were the reason our culture was so calm about the shooting in schools and the shooting in the movie theater in colorado. Even with my bias toward the issue i do agree that our culture has grown used to the issue of public shoots but i disagree where it comes from. The author blames our cinema where as i blame the constant occurrence of the shooting. Next, comes article two and i think the main focus of this article should be turned towards the interview with Tarantino. He became very offended when the person interviewing him asked about his views towards violent cinema. Now as a reader/viewer of the interview we can take it 2 ways: 1.) either that he doesn't want to talk about the potential correlation for fear it might hurt his movie sales or 2.) that he sees no correlation between the two and is tired of explaining himself. It is hard to say if it is  either one, if not both. I think it might be a little of both because Tarantino has been explaining his reasons for playing violent films since "Pulp Fiction" came out and he doesn't want to include his new film in the controversy between violent acts and violent films. Finally, i want to talk about the first article which scientifically expanse the difference between violent video games and violent acts. In a very quick summary "There is only a 13% overlap of the two" (paraphrased from article one). This is where my personal views comes in. I am an 18 year old man/teen/child who grew up in a generation which exploited our interest in violence and because of this i have watched violent films religiously and played violent video games for hours on end, as the vast majority of my friends have. But with this in mind nor my friends or myself have ever committed a violent crime (yet) or plan on doing so. I think after reading all of these article it is hard to find a correlation between violent video games and violent acts because of the number of kids who play violent video games. Although most, if not all, of the kids who did these mass shooting played violent video games we have to remember the number of kids who played these games and did not commit any crimes. Lastly, i would like to say that I agree with article one on the note that more specific research be done on the correlation before we continue to make accusations and that regardless of the correlation our culture needs to do something about the issue.
