Article Summary

The article, Science From Virginia Tech, shows two studies conducted by James B. Weaver III and Dolf Zillmann.  The first study focused on frequent exposure to violent films and how it effected college students.  After conducting an experiment the researches found that media violence had a strong effect on how violent of a reaction each person had when provoked.  The second study focused on how how violence in the  media affected participants' reactions to things that did not involve them personally.  Through experiments they found an array of data which focusing more specific social factors.  For example "The reasearches found that men who perceived themselves as socially deviant and egocentric were more likely to accept violence as a means of resolving societal conflicts after watching four movies with gratuitous violence."  I think this article can be used as a compelling a contradicting point as these educators bring factual evidence to the discussion rather than personal opinons creating a rich dialogue that can go in many different directions focusing mostly on violence in movies.
