Unit 1 Dialog Summary

I chose to focus on how, or if, the government should play a role in the rising conflict of violence in the media. Some say that government should step in and begin to control laws and regulations on violence in things such as movies, video games, and television shows. At the same time, others believe that solutions to the problems of violence in media does not reside in the government, instead parents are the ones that should be stepping in to control the situation. In the article, “Op-Ed: Hollywood hypocrisy on media violence”, Nance refers to A Pew Research Center survey that indicated 75% of the polled adults wanted to see a larger enforcement of laws and regulations on broadcast content. Contradicting Nance, in the article, “Government, the Media, and Youth Violence”, Reed expresses his opinion by stating that government is not the ones that should be restricting violence in the media, instead it should be the parents limiting violence in their household. Between the four articles I found, I think I will create my dialog based upon a debate using all four authors going back and forth with both facts and opinions on how violence in the media should be solved.
