Article Summary
My article is called, "Op-ed, Blame violent children on failed parenting." This article chooses not to point the blame at video games, music, and movies; rather, it turns the fault on the upbringing of these children. It discusses how kids are being left without rules or punishment and how it is this that leads to the violence that happens. Kids need these rules to keep them in line and to know right from wrong, they need examples in order to have a good moral compass. In my discussion, I hope to talk about whether or not the real reason behind all of this violence leads to the parents/household that these kids are growing up with. Are they not receiving attention? Are they taught to hate and that violence is acceptable? It is my belief that the fault truly does not lie with the media, rather, a person's ability to make the difference from fiction and reality. Majority of the world's population is able to make this distinction, but for those that are unable to and in the end act out, why? While most people choose to pick the painless option of the media and turn the blame on them, I disagree. Rather I truly think that it goes deeper into the background of the person caught in the violent act. Children are very impressionable, especially early on and it is in the early years where they pick up how to know the difference between right and wrong. But if they are never taught this difference, how will they turn out?
