For my topic on violence in the media I am choosing to focus
on what parents can do about it. I think that parents should stop blaming
producers and writers for what their children are watching. They should have some control and monitor how
much violence their children see in the media.
Since they can’t control what is put on billboards and things out in the
open they should be able to control at least what tv shows, movies, and songs
they are listening to. This article
gives great examples and ideas of how parents can go about controlling what
their children are seeing. Parents have
to take some responsibility for what their children are doing. They can’t blame others. I think they need to talk to their children
about the violence they see on tv and in movies. Parents can also teach them about gun safety
and explain that on tv no one is actually getting hurt. Children need to know the real danger of
weapons in real life. If they see it on
tv they need to be talked to about it or they may end up thinking it’s ok for
that to happen in real life. This
article explains how people are constantly blaming people for violence and that
can’t happen. Parents need to step up
and do their part in keeping their children from being violent and preventing
it later in life. I believe it just needs to be monitored and talked about.
