Prior
to reading the four articles, I had a pretty relaxed opinion of violence in
media. Sure violence in movies and video games might impact some people in a
negative manner, but did seeing the movie “The Dark Night Rises” make the
gunman in the Aurora shooting walk into the movie theater and kill innocent
people? No. As the second article states, violence in media do not correlate
with aggression or actual behavior, instead media violence is associated
with arousal and aggressive thoughts. Although I feel as if it is incorrect
to blame the entertainment industry on the violence in today’s society, the fourth
article caught my attention when LaSalle began discussing movie ratings. LaSalle
suggests that movies with violence of any sort, should receive an R rating. He proposes
that this will reduce or eliminate the violence in PG-13 movies and limit
violence to R ratings only. After reading the articles, my opinion has remained
unchanged, but I would not be against some minor changes in the film industry.
