Response and Reaction

This articles that I read all made a solid effort to form an opinion on an issue where there isn’t one correct answer to the question does violence in media cause people to be more violent. There’s not one simple answer to this. I honestly think that it is impossible to view violence and not be affected by it in some way. The effect as I learned in Communications 2100 may be different t than just straight out violence. In one of my lectures we learned about a “Conscience numbing effect” where exposure to violent media made us less likely to be effected when we saw actual violence. Also having read the first article I feel as though Banduras “bobo doll” experiment gives too limited a view into the eventual violence that could occur. Exposing someone very young to violence without them being able to understand right or wrong will cause that behavior to be viewed as ok. Personally I have played shooting games, I have played games where there was a lot of killing, I don’t view myself as a violent person because I understand these are video games in which the behavior in those games is not acceptable outside of those games. It is an upbringing and understanding that is necessary to avoid violence coming from those sources.
